About

What does our school look like?

We are a dual language school.  We believe that a school that is vibrant with language, arts and culture is an ideal setting to nurture and transform its students into life long learners.

Walking down our hallways, you will hear Spanish and English spoken. On the walls you will see detailed student essays and art work in two languages, representing a range of topics explored as part of our Common Core curriculum.

Research shows that children’s brains are most receptive to language in the elementary school years. We take full advantage of this fact through our interdisciplinary curriculum, a highly effective approach to acquiring a second language. Through grade level studies, students explore content in social studies, science and literature in both languages -fully enriched by the arts. These features are what set us apart and make our students successful because we know that in today’s world, students that are bilingual and bicultural are capable of understanding the world around them and well positioned to succeed.

How do we support our students?

Our work is ongoing. Teachers and staff make it a priority to support the needs and grow the strengths of each and every student.

Student assessment takes place regularly and provides information on individual progress, allowing teachers to identify those students mastering material as well as identify areas of need where children need targeted support.

Mission
In an effort to represent the community’s prestige, The South Bronx Charter School for International Cultures and the Arts is a model of excellence providing its youngsters with a constructivist and child centered curriculum. Our intellectually challenging and standards based curriculum is enriched by our international perspective, the arts, and dual language program. Students receive a well-rounded education that uses the arts to promote excellence in all areas: cognitive, social, emotional, and moral. Our school meets or exceeds New York State Learning Standards, aligns student learning to those standards and supports teachers with professional development opportunities. Our community, our parents, and staff are empowered to participate meaningfully in our school to strengthen its potential for success.
